We offer three levels of music programs at Harmony Project Hudson, plus a Summer Session. Additionally, advanced students may volunteer to become student mentors and assist the younger students with their lessons.
MUSICIANSHIP PROGRAM
In their first year at Harmony Project Hudson, K-2 students are enrolled in the Musicianship program, in which they are introduced to both the fundamentals of music (including ear training, note reading, basics of rhythm, active and critical listening, the sounds and mechanics of orchestral instruments), and the fundamental social values of our program, working to recognize, practice, and strengthen individual and collaborative social and emotional skills. Students participate in two hour classes twice weekly which include both classroom time and participation in our beginning choir.
In their second year, Harmony Project Hudson students move into the Recorder program, which consists of twice weekly Recorder lessons, and once weekly ear training and chorus. We continue to grow and strengthen social and emotional skills in lesson and ensemble settings.
STRING PROGRAM
By their third year, Harmony Project Hudson move into the String program. They are able to select violin, viola, or cello as their instrument and receive twice weekly instrumental lessons in addition to an ear training class and, by their fourth year, string ensemble. String program students actively participate in dynamic music learning environments and regularly have the chance to strengthen their musical, social, and leadership skills in lessons and ensembles. At the junior high level, students have the opportunity to volunteer as student mentors in younger students’ classes, lessons, and ensembles, in exchange for private lessons on their instrument.
