About HPH

HPH enrolled its first class in Spring 2016 at JLE Primary School, with 23 first and second graders, and by the start of its seventh academic year, 2021-22, had grown to serve over 300 students in the Hudson City School district between PreK and 9th grade. As of 2021, HPH provides early childhood music classes to all PreK, Kindergarten and 1st grade students enrolled in Hudson City School District, as well as after school Musicianship and String Programs.

At its heart, HPH is a comprehensive program geared toward positive self-actualization and -expression, collaboration, and leadership. Through music, we aim to help our students realize the fullness of their innate and unique potential not only as individuals, but as citizens in the service of their community.
Harmony Project Hudson works in ongoing collaboration with community partners the Hudson City School District, Hudson Hall at the Historic Hudson Opera House, the Hudson Area Library, Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood, and Kids Need Music.

THE HARMONY PROJECT HUDSON TEAM

Harmony Projects have been remarkably successful in accomplishing these goals by bringing quality music instruction and ensemble playing to children who otherwise would not have access to it. In complementing music education with supporting resources and opportunities, Harmony Projects foster a community of families that actively support their children’s growth and development.

​Since 2008, 93% of Harmony Project high school seniors have graduated in four years AND have gone on to colleges like Dartmouth, Tulane, NYU, Smith, Cornell, UC Berkeley, UCLA  and USC, despite dropout rates of 50% or more in the neighborhoods where they live. They have participated in Harmony Projects an average of six years.

How It All Started

Noted documentary filmmaker, and founder of Harmony Project Hudson, Josh Aronson first engaged with Harmony Project when asked to make a film about the organization for PBS weekend news. While making the film, he was so touched by the organization and its broad impact that he wanted to get involved. Josh, who has a home in Hudson, wanted to bring the power of music to kids within his community. The local Hudson School District embraced the idea, and our incredible partners signed on right away. The result is Harmony Project Hudson.
